My Gino's II story by Gerry Romo (Member of the Gino's Muppets)

The Muppets were a party crew from East LA. I was attending Belvedere jr. High 9tht grade in good ol East Los Angeles. The year was 1978-79, we would go to house partys hang out take and the the RTD to downtown to watch movies, and so forth. Typical teenage stuff. I remember my Good friend Gabriel De Leon's
Brother Joe.

On saturdays he would get ready to go out, and I mean get ready! This guy, with all do respect, was a queen! So one day he ask Gabriel & I if we had anything to do besides hang in out looking for a house party, so we looked at each other and said NO! He asked if we wanted to go to Gino's? We said why not, so we ran home to get ready. I think my brother Richard had been to Gino's and I had to see to it see for myself. When we finally got to there, I couldn't belive my eyes, the line to get to the place the line started on the side of the
shopping complex, drag queens, Divas, Pompadour sporting dudes with flossed out wardrobes. They had some cool outfits.

When we walk up to the club, which by the way looked like a little hole in the wall, to my surprise it was not a hole at all, This place was thriving with Bad Ass Music, pumped out by this DJ, who by the way knew how to hustle, was none other than Michael Angelo, and the people were in Harmony for one thing and one thing only to DANCE! That is when I said I like this place! From there on out, I became a Gino's regular. I fell in love with the music and the place! The rest is history!

Long live underground disco, long live Ernie Calderon long live The Muppets!!!!
